Mother’s Day is my (Peicha) favorite holiday.  Flowers are at their spring peak, bright & bountiful – just in time to celebrate!  It’s a busy holiday for sure, but without the high expectations of Valentine’s Day.  This year the shop will be full of peonies, garden roses, lavender, astilbe, and more; including some things strange & wonderful.  Think lots of texture!

We’ll also be OPEN this Sunday, May 13th (Mother’s Day) from 9:00AM-1:00PM to help you with any last minute needs.  That doesn’t mean you should wait until the last minute to order, but we’ll be here for you.

Last Saturday we did an intimate wedding reception out at the gorgeous Wayne Art Center.  Earlier that week, one of our favorite neighbors happened by with a bucketful of gorgeous hot pink tree peonies, which went straight into the centerpieces – YUM.  The peonies were played up with accents of frittilaria, muscari, sweet pea, columbine, & more to create sweet, whimsical arrangements.  I wish more people would plan April weddings; it’s so much fun to work with the smaller, more delicate early spring flowers!

With that, we started the month with a bright and beautiful wedding at St Francis Xavier + the Downtown Club on the 4^th:

Ten days later brought an incredible Valentine’s Day full of Cupid’s love-struck heroes.  The lack of cranky customers was a great feeling (One could blame it on the cookies, or the beer.  Perhaps both!), armloads of gorgeous bouquets walked out the door that day:

The end of February saw a beautiful little dessert soiree for one of our favorite clients.  Theme: 1920’s Paris, art deco.  So fun!  We created four different arrangements to set the mood and had a great time doing so:

When not working on these events, we hosted consultations with bright-eyed brides & grooms-to-be to discuss their wedding vision.  This year is quickly filling up with gorgeous and unique weddings!  A tip for the newly engaged: if you’re planning a May wedding in 2013, book now!  Don’t wait until next January – your first choice will likely be booked solid by then.

There are fewer things in this world that are more exciting than a newborn. Spring is the perfect metaphor for new life coming into the world. As Mother Nature awakens from her still winter’s sleep, the beauty of spring emerges from nothingness, as is the case with life. From nothingness springs something!

It was inspiring to receive an order for a bouquet to celebrate the birth of a sweet little girl. It was so much fun to convey this joy through flowers, especially since spring is upon us!
